Police claimed to have arrested a gang on Tuesday involved in mugging foreign travellers in guise of security personnel after tracking them from Islamabad airport.

The suspects – dressed in police uniforms – parked their car outside airport exit in order to stalk foreign-returned passengers. They used to follow expats to rob them on their way back home after identifying themselves as law enforcers.

The accused gang recently targeted a UK-returned father and his son in Morgah when they were on their way back home from the airport.

They not only swindled foreign currency from the duo but also shot the father after he resisted the act of robbery.

Police arrested a few members of the notorious gang, including the ring leader, while others are on the run.

They also recovered looted foreign and local currencies, expensive items –  including laptops and mobile phones – fake number plates, police uniforms, wireless sets and weapons used in various crimes.

During preliminary investigation, culprits have confessed to their crimes in the areas that lie under the jurisdiction of Westridge and Rawaat police stations.

However, police are on the hunt for other members of the group as investigation in the matter is underway.
